The Commodores played at the Submarine Birthday Ball a few years back. They were outstanding - very heavy on the Big Band jazz sound.

That was a special evening - the guest speaker was Admiral Gene Fluckey, Congressional Medal of Honor winner and Commanding Officer of USS BARB. He recounted some of his crew's actions on BARB's 5th war patrol. Normally the guest speakers drone on about stuff no one cares about - not the case with ADM Fluckey. I was stunned to look around the room and see a cluster of 3 or 4 of the hotel staff and servers at every single service door into the ballroom. They, like us, were hanging on every single word that man said.

I'm not sure if you like WWII history or not, but his book "Thunder Below" is about as visceral as it gets when it comes to submarine warfare in WWII. Well worth it - I'm biased, but you knew that.

BTW - congrats to Coach K for a truly remarkable milestone. Looks like two bastions of college coaching cemented their legacies in the past week - I'm with Coach K if you don't mind......

Thanks for the feedback; I'll keep that in mind. Yea, I'm into WWII history but not like some others on this forum. That said, I do have a picture in my office (not far from Jerry for Playbill at Lunt-Fontane) of my grandfather standing in a small meeting with Gen. Omar Bradley and a client gave me a signed picture of MacArthur (waiting for my moment on pawn stars with that one...).

Yea, the General didn't speak to K for years after Duke beat them in Final Four; it took K calling him re being inducted into HOF for that relationship to thaw. Now it's all hugs and respect, but the General gave him a cold shoulder for many years.

I was talking about Joe Pa....never cared much for Knight.

Respect his accomplishments, but just don't like the guy all that much.
